Who runs the site, and what this policy is.

Proper English Grammar is a free IELTS preparation site run by Adam J. Smith, an independent English tutor. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the site. It is written in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, you can reach Adam through the Preply profile.

Almost nothing, and nothing that identifies you.

There are no accounts to create and no advertising trackers on this site. Visits are counted using GoatCounter, a cookieless analytics service: it records that a page was read, along with rough details such as country, browser and screen width, and it stores no IP address, no full browser string and no identifier of any kind. It can tell me that a page was read. It cannot tell me who read it, and neither can I. There is one optional sign-up, described below, and nothing on the site is behind it. Because of that, the site itself does not build any profile of who you are or what you do. The one exception is booking a lesson, which is described in section 06.

Two ordinary technical things still happen, as they do on any website. First, the site is hosted by Netlify, and like all web hosts Netlify processes standard server information (such as your IP address and the pages requested) to deliver the site and keep it secure. Second, your own browser handles the fonts and files the pages need. Neither of these is used to identify you or to track you across other sites.

Your progress stays on your device.

The grammar game saves your progress (your current level, which questions you have seen, and how many rounds you have played) in your browser’s local storage. This is a convenience feature so the game can pick up where you left off. That information is never sent anywhere, is not shared with anyone, and is not visible to Adam or to anyone else. You can wipe it at any time using the reset button on the game’s end screen, or by clearing your browser’s site data. Nothing else on the site stores anything on your device.

No consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.

This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and the visitor count described in section 02 is cookieless by design, so there is no cookie banner. The only storage used is the strictly functional local storage described above, which most privacy rules treat as exempt from consent because it does nothing but remember your own game progress. Because the site does not track you across the web in the first place, a browser “Do Not Track” signal has nothing extra to switch off here.

Once you leave, their rules apply.

The site links out to a few other places, including Preply, Amazon (for the book) and ketodive.life. When you follow one of those links you are on someone else’s site, under their privacy policy, not this one.

Two companies handle this, and only this.

The booking calendar on the Book a lesson page is provided by Cal.com, and the card payment is handled by Stripe. When you book, you give your name, your email address and your timezone to Cal.com so that the lesson can be scheduled and confirmed, and your card details go directly to Stripe. Adam never sees or stores your card number; the site itself stores nothing about you at all.

Cal.com writes the booking into Adam’s teaching calendar, which is a Google Calendar, so that the slot is held and cannot be double-booked. Your name and email appear there, and in the confirmation emails and video-call invitation you receive. Stripe keeps a record of the payment, as any payment processor must, and Adam can see the amount, the date and the name on the booking in the Stripe dashboard.

Each of those companies handles your information under its own privacy policy: Cal.com, Stripe and Google. If you book a lesson through Preply instead, that booking is handled entirely by Preply under Preply’s terms. If you want a booking record removed, ask Adam and it will be deleted as far as those services allow.

One optional sign-up, handled by Kit.

If you ask for the free guide on the free guide page, or ask to be told when the book publishes, you give an email address and nothing else. That address goes to Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the company that stores the list and sends the emails. Kit records your address, the form you used, whether you confirmed it, and whether you open or click the emails it sends you. Adam can see the same.

The address is used to send you the guide, occasional writing about IELTS preparation, and word of a new book. It is never sold, rented or passed to anyone else. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately and without asking why; unsubscribing removes you from the list, and you can ask Adam to delete the record entirely.

Kit handles the data under its own privacy policy. Nothing on this site is behind the sign-up: every drill, test and tool stays free and needs no account, and asking for the guide is the only thing that puts an address anywhere.

Contact, rights, and the date of this policy.

Because the site collects no personal data directly, there is little for it to show, correct or delete. If you have any question about privacy, or you believe a host-level log involves you and you want to ask about it, contact Adam through the Preply profile. Where data-protection law gives you rights of access, correction or erasure, those requests will be honoured as far as the site is able.

This policy may be updated if the site changes, and this page will say so plainly when it does. This version is current as of August 2026, and was last updated when a cookieless visitor count was added to the site.
