The short version. The resources here are free to use for your own IELTS preparation. They are provided honestly and in good faith, but without any guarantee of a particular exam result, and the content remains the author’s work.
What you may do with these resources.
Proper English Grammar is a free IELTS preparation site run by Adam J. Smith. You are welcome to use every page, drill and tool here for your own study, and to use them with your own students if you teach. By using the site you accept these terms. They are meant to be fair and readable, not a wall of legal text.
Please do not repackage it as your own.
The passages, drills, models, tools and writing on this site were written by Adam J. Smith and remain his intellectual property. You may link to any page freely, and you may use the material for teaching and study. You may not copy the content wholesale, republish it as your own, or sell it. If you would like to use something more extensively, ask through the Preply profile.
Honest help, not a promised band score.
These resources are here to help you prepare well, and they are built with care, but no website can promise a particular IELTS band. Any band figures shown next to sample answers are indicative teaching estimates, not official IELTS marking, and the model answers are described as models written by the tutor rather than real marked scripts. Your result depends on your own work and on the official examiners on the day.
Reasonable expectations.
The site is offered free and as it is. Adam works to keep it accurate and available, but does not warrant that every page will be error-free or online at all times, and cannot accept liability for any loss arising from using a free resource. If you spot a mistake, telling him through the Preply profile is genuinely welcome and helps everyone.
Booking a lesson, and changing your mind.
Lessons are booked on the Book a lesson page, through a calendar provided by Cal.com, and paid for by card at the time of booking through Stripe. Booking a lesson forms an agreement between you and Adam J. Smith for that lesson: fifty minutes of one-to-one tuition at the time you chose, delivered online, followed by a written report and homework. The price is £20 unless the page says otherwise at the time you book.
Rescheduling and cancellation. Payment at booking is final: a cancelled lesson is not refunded, and a missed lesson counts as taught. What you can do instead is move it. You may reschedule to any other free slot, without charge, up to 24 hours before the lesson starts, using the links in your confirmation email; inside 24 hours the time is committed and can no longer be moved. If Adam has to cancel your lesson and cannot offer you a time that works, that lesson is refunded in full; that is the one case in which money goes back.
Packs. Two prepaid packs are offered on the booking page: eight lessons for £144 and sixteen for £272. A pack is valid for twelve months from purchase and is booked lesson by lesson through a private link; every lesson in a pack follows the same rescheduling rule above, and unused or expired lessons are not refunded. If Adam cancels a lesson from a pack and cannot offer a workable alternative, that lesson is returned to the pack.
Where a refund is due under the paragraph above, it is returned to the card you paid with and processed by Stripe, so it can take a few working days to appear. Lessons booked through Preply are governed by Preply’s own terms, pricing and cancellation rules, not by this page.
The legal footing, and the date.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. They may be updated if the site changes, and the current version is always the one published here. This version is current as of July 2026. Any question about these terms can go to Adam through the Preply profile.
