The Proper English Grammar Guide to IELTS Speaking

Paperback · Kindle · 614 pages

The full framework behind the Speaking resources on this site: the three parts, the response scaffolds, band-by-band model answers from 5.5 to 8.0, first-language guidance for eight language families, and audio demonstrations one scan away.

Everything the site drills for free is the method; the book is the method written down properly, in order, with nothing missing.

Most speaking guides teach every candidate the same English. This one is built around the two things that actually hold scores down: knowledge that does not survive the pressure of the room, and the specific habits your first language installs. Nineteen chapters diagnose both and drill the repair to automation, drawing on more than two thousand documented one-to-one lessons with students from more than fifteen first-language backgrounds. There is no other IELTS Speaking book organised this way.

A Range of Structures for (but not necessarily limited to) IELTS Speaking

Free · 79 pages · PDF

Its own book, not an extract. Eleven sections on the grammar the speaking test rewards, worked in order from the structures that hold a Band 6 together to the ones that separate 7 from 8: conditionals, perfect tenses, the passive, relative clauses, modals for speculation, cleft sentences and inversion. Each with its rule, its formula, the errors that cost marks, and prompts to say aloud.

A band-by-band priority guide, the scoring model in plain English, and a glossary for when the metalanguage gets in the way.
